A Journey from Leicester to the World Stage: My First England Cap at the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series 2024

My name is Darren Hutchings-Webber, Director at Business Utility Renewals (BUR), and while my day-to-day work involves helping businesses navigate the complex world of energy consultancy, my passion outside of the office has always been cricket.

This year, that passion has taken me to new heights – representing England for the first time in the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series 2024. From local leagues in Leicester to competing on the world stage in Sri Lanka, it’s been a remarkable journey.

From Local Leagues to Representing England in Indoor Cricket

Cricket has been a part of my life since I was 7, but my love for indoor cricket took off when I was 31, playing in leagues across Leicester and Birmingham.

Now, at 45+, I’ll be donning the England jersey for the first time – an achievement that has been years in the making. As I step onto the court, I carry not only my personal pride but the spirit of all the games I’ve played to get here.

Competing on the World Stage: Indoor Cricket Masters World Series 2024

The Indoor Cricket Masters World Series takes place every three years, bringing together some of the world’s best teams. In 2024, I’ll be facing formidable opponents from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, India, and the UAE.

Our first match is set for the 27th of September against Australia, in the cricket-loving city of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It’s a fast-paced competition, with daily matches until the knockout rounds begin, and I’m eager to rise to the challenge.

The Indoor Cricket Mindset: Balancing Personal Responsibility and Teamwork

Cricket has taught me valuable lessons about life – particularly the balance between individual responsibility and teamwork. Every player brings their strengths to the team, but it’s the collective effort that brings success.

This mindset is something I carry into my role as Director at Business Utility Renewals (BUR), where collaboration is key to achieving our goals. Just as in cricket, it’s not about individual glory but working together to succeed.

Preparing for the World Stage: Dedication, Passion, and Teamwork

Representing England at the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series 2024 is an honour that I’m ready to embrace. Whether it’s stepping up for my team on the cricket pitch or leading a business, I firmly believe in the power of dedication, teamwork, and passion.

As I prepare for the competition in Sri Lanka, I’m excited not only for the opportunity to compete at the highest level but also to represent my country and my passion for the game. It’s a challenge I’m ready to take head-on.

Conclusion: Ready for the Challenge of the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series 2024

As I prepare for the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series 2024, I reflect on how this journey – from my early cricketing days in Leicester to representing England – has shaped me both personally and professionally. I’m looking forward to the competition, and I’m determined to make this experience one to remember, both for myself and my teammates.
